In nomine Patris, et Filii, + et Spiritus Sancti.  Amen   (In the name of the father, and of the Son, + and of the Holy Ghost.  Amen. )

15th Sunday after Pentecost  –  1st September 2013 (Colour of Celebration – Green)
Intent:  The reality of things eternal.  A day of devotion to the Holy Spirit.

O Holy Spirit, the comforter of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy; increase and multiply within us thy heavenly wisdom; that, thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal as never to lose sight of the things eternal and may ever live in the service of Christ our holy Lord, who with thee and the almighty Father liveth and reigneth one God for evermore.  Amen.

Our Lord Jesus Christ has snatched us from eternal death, as He once snatched the young man of Naim from natural death and doing this He shows the compassion which he feels for our mother the Catholic Church lamenting over sinners, just as He was moved by pity for the poor widow lamenting over her son.

Homily:
Today we are really thinking about the reality of things eternal.  We are devoting this day to the Holy Spirit, because all our true spiritual learning is because of the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Now you remember  how the bible describes the way in which Jesus was raised from the dead, after three days.  Now this is mind blowing stuff, but think of this.  The very same force will likewise be raising us from the dead one day.  You see as a believer in Christ Jesus we have overcome the limitations of our physical life being so short and delicately balanced.  In Christ Jesus we will love forever, for all eternity.  Of course to describe the different levels in Heaven is not what this homily is about.  To describe the path that one would take through heaven, and how you would grow closer to God in the kingdom of heaven is also not what this homily is about.  We are talking about the spiritual development of the inner man on this earth plain.  Very down to earth stuff.

The inner man is renewed each day, as he walks with the Spirit of God within himself, day after day.  The spiritual or the soul side of the man grows to spiritual maturity and becomes better and better in every way.  At the same time as this is happening the physical body of the man becomes older and older and starts to wear out.  As the man focusses on the things that are not seen in this world, he grows in an unseen sort of way, in a spiritual way.  You see, God is Spirit, and if we are to get closer to God, we have to develop ourselves spiritually.  Many of us have been baptized and taken Christ Jesus up on his offer of atonement for sins or justification by faith.  We know we are going to heaven when we die.  However we are just preparing ourselves to enjoy it even more in heaven one day.  We are starting to develop our spiritual sides.  When we look at the temporal things around us, the worldly things, the things that we can see with our physical eyes, then we are drawn down to physical reality, and in a way our soul stops growing while we focus on the mundane.

As we focus on the church we begin to focus sometime on the things that have gone wrong in the church, yes even in these days.  As we look at the physical institution of the church, and the way it works, we should remind ourselves, that we should not focus on the fact that it is wrong to be a Gay paedophile, while hiding behind the cassock of a Priest or Bishop.  We should be focussing on the fact that it is wrong to be a paedophile in any circumstances, but especially in the church.  You see on the physical level, it should not be about whether it is better to destroy the loves of little boys or to destroy the loves of little girls.  We should be focussing on the fact that there are potentially Priests and Bishops in our midst’s who are paedophiles and are destroying the lives of innocent children, possibly even as you read this homily.  That is the physical reality that you should focus on, because you have to do something about it.  If you leave it and do nothing, you are effectively supporting whatever they are doing.

For such people who are using the church to hide in, we could say that it would be better for them to tie boulders to their bodies and to throw themselves into a river.  Jesus said, “Suffer the children to come unto me”.  I am not going to mention names at this point in time, or specific church organizations.  However if this does apply to you, then I am seriously appealing to you to immediately resign from the church.  Christ Jesus does not want you in his Church, Jesus loves the children.  I appeal to you to relinquish your title of Priest, Bishop or whatever it is.  I appeal to you to stop dragging the precious name of Jesus Christ, into the filthy, evil gutters with yourself.  I appeal to you to have the courage to admit to the world the evil deeds that you have committed, in the guise of being a close follower of Christ Jesus.

The damage that you are doing far outweighs the degenerate human being that you are, or have become.  The damage that you are doing during this transient existence on Earth may be insignificant from a time perspective against eternity; but the damage inflicted on multiple innocent souls, will last for all eternity, and will generate countless ripple effects.

I appeal to everybody to focus on the reality of eternal things, and to cut off or destroy all that seeks to impregnate us with the filthy evil side of this transient and temporal life.  Please I implore everybody, let us make a difference.  Count yourself amongst loving human beings, count yourself amongst the sons and daughters of God, protect the children at all costs.

In the Gospel we find a lawyer questioning Christ Jesus about how to inherit eternal life.  You see by the time that the lawyer came to speak to Christ Jesus he had already studied the scriptures pretty intensely.  It turned out that the lawyer knew the answer to his question, because he was able to quote for Christ Jesus from the Old testament.

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.”

Of course being a lawyer he had to take it to the next step, and he asked Christ Jesus who his neighbour was.  Of course we now know what Jesus meant by our neighbour, we know that it includes everybody around us, especially those in need, and we know that it includes the innocent children as well, because Christ Jesus especially loved the children.  So in a way first and foremost your neighbour includes the children around you, especially those children in need.

Christ Jesus went on to tell the story of the Good Samaritan, that you all know so well.  As the story goes, a certain man was travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho by foot.  A band of thieves attached and robbed him of everything, including his clothes, and left him half dead.  It was not long before a Priest came down the road, and seeing the man lying next to the road decided to walk by on the other side of the road.  Before long a Levite came by, he took the trouble to look more closely at the man in distress, but decided to walk by on the other side.  After some time a Samaritan came along, and seeing the man in distress his heart went out to him.  He bathed his wounds in oil and wine, and bound them as best he could.  He put the man on his own best of burden and took him to an Inn where he could look after him.  The Samaritan had to leave the next day, but he left the InnKeeper with enough money to look after the man.

Christ Jesus was demonstrating to the lawyer exactly who our neighbour was.  The Samaritan had been a good neighbour, as we are all called to be good neighbours, to love our neighbour as ourselves.

If we are to love our neighbours as ourselves, then it becomes our duty when we become aware of the actions of paedophiles in our communities, to do something about it.  We have no choice to show love and compassion to the potential victims by exposing the paedophiles, and making sure that they are brought to justice.  If we are to love our neighbours we have no choice but to demonstrate this love, especially when the lives of innocent children are being directly compromised.  Jesus loves the little children, and we need to expose and eradicate the paedophiles in our communities to demonstrate our love for our neighbours.  If we tolerate these sex offenders for whatever reason, and allow them to continue operating in our midst, then we ourselves will one-day have to answer to God for the sins against humanity, that they have committed.  Remember that they sins of omission can be more hefty than the sins of commission.  Let us prepare ourselves pure and blameless for the day of judgement by doing our duty now, and exposing and eradicating the evil in our midst.  Please I appeal to you to do something about it right now.  Let’s stand up together in obedience to the New Commandment of Christ Jesus, and put a stop to the actions of the paedophiles in our midst right now.

Love Father Franz.

Church History – Article 10:
Challenges for the Church
After the tenth century, the Christian faith was strengthened by challenges that came both from within the church and outside the church.

The biggest challenge from within the church came in the form of the anti-clerical and the anti-hierarchical movements.  The institutional church branded these movements as heresies.  The most prominent and influential heritical groups were the Albigensians and the Waldensians.  The existence of the heritical groups within the church was ultimately not as big a challenge to the existence of the church, as was the way in which the so called heritics who were loving members of the church were dealt with.

The Albegensians, who were also known as the “Cathari” or “Pure Ones”, were vigorously evangelistic.  The Albegensians were persecuted so successfully by the institutional church, that there was nobody left to explain what they really believed in.  However the persecutors from within the institutional church claimed that the Albigensians had rejected the Christian doctrine of Creation.  Not having the details is a bit frustrating.  We know that there were many different stories of creation that had been in circulation for quite some time.  Even today, you can buy compiled publications of alternative scriptures, that have been collected over time.  In such collections you will find the most wonderful stories of creation, from different traditions.  However sadly we will never really know the details of exactly what they believed about the creation of the world.

The Albigensians in their teachings, differentiated between the flesh of man and the spirit of man.  This formed the basis or foundation for the rest of their specific belief systems and practices.  The Albigensians laid a heavy emphasis on the life of the spirit, which does not seem to contradict with anything that we believe in these days.  However they did denounce the growing worldliness of the church, which may have been a problem for the Institutional church.  Ever since the Church had teamed up with the Roman Empire in the year 395, such comments as growing worldliness and others may not have been too far off the mark.  To think that not so many centuries before this, the church and its members had been subjected to persecution, and now the church was the one persecuting its members, to the extent of complete elimination of a so-called heretic group.  The persecution of the Albigensians was perhaps one of the signs, that there was something horribly wrong somewhere.

Then the church had to contend with the Waldensians.  Their belief system was not so easy to attack, because they simply laid emphasis on the need to return to a more Apostolic Christianity based upon the biblical teachings.  They did make the mistake of preaching against the worldliness of the Church, the same standpoint that the Albigensians had taken.  Because of this standpoint about the worldliness of the church they took a tremendous persecution from the church at the beginning of the thirteenth century.  However there was a twist to the story of the persecution of the Waldensians, because later on in the thirteenth century the Friars were also preaching against the growing worldliness of the institutional church, but with the approval of the church authorities.  So we can assume that the growing worldliness of the institutional church was a big problem in those days.  However the persecution against the Waldensians by the institutional church continued, but perhaps on a more subdued note, then as in the case of the Albigensians.
The Waldensians were able to prevent the complete eradication of themselves by the institutional church by fleeing to virtually inaccessible alpine valleys in northern Italy, Savoy, Switzerland, and Austria.  The Waldensians have survived to the present day, and are especially prevalent in Italy.

I believe that a moment of silence for the Albigensians and the Waldensians would be in order now.  A moment of silence for these very serious members of the medieval catholic Church, who were persecuted and completely eradicated, except for the Waldensians who managed to survive in isolated pockets.  It is with this heavy baggage on the part of the church, that the institutional church had to continue its journey, and ourselves with it.

The medieval Catholic church had reacted to the so-called heritical movements in various ways.  The most obvious response was repression of the group identified.  In time many devout Christians came to recognize the Piety of the so-called heretics, and strongly wished for a more spiritual approach amongst the more orthodox Christians.  Conventional members of the church were able to find suitable vehicles for spiritual development in Monasticism and Mysticism.  These two vehicles were again to be a problem for the church from then onwards, until the present day.  During the Medieval times more and more people were seeking spirituality, which is what any religious organization is supposed to provide for its members.  The church was becoming more and more wrapped up in the affairs of the temporal or ordinary world, and paying less and less attention to its foundations, and the spiritual development of its members.  Can you recognize the seeds that the institutional church was planting for itself, as they approached the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries?

The Apocrypha is a collection of additional books written by the people of the Old Covenant, and used in the Christian Church.

=> Why do we call the Holy Scriptures the word of God?
We call them the word of God because God inspired their human authors and because God still speaks to us through the Bible.

=> How do we understand the meaning of the Bible?
We understand the meaning of the Bible by the help of the Holy Spirit, who guides the Church in the true interpretation of the Scriptures.

Intent:  Renewal of Heart
O GOD, who in thy loving-kindness hast appointed for us a ministry of reconciliation, that by it our feet may be restored to the path wherein we should walk; grant us that, firmly resisting all temptation, we may follow that path unto its glorious end in thee; through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

We have been initiated into spiritual life by the Sacrament of Baptism, and strengthened, perfected, by the sacrament of Confirmation.  The Feast of Pentecost has celebrated the efficaciousness of Baptism and Confirmation: the graces and fruits given by the Holy Ghost.  The Church recalls in the Liturgy today the duty of charity which derives from them.

Homily:
Today’s homily or sermon is all about the renewal of the heart.  When we are looking at the heart we, are looking at the seat of our emotions, we are looking at our core belief system.  By core belief system I mean that which you believe in so strongly that at the drop of a hat you will lay down your life for it.  Yep, I am only kidding there, most of you will probably think it a bit old fashioned to lay down your life for that which you believe in.  Also quite sad that our core belief system is not that strong that we will lay our physical lives down for it.  Note this is not our soul, or our immortal spirit that we are talking about here, it is merely our physical or transient bodies.  Yet in a way it is a scary thought.  It is like the ultimate test of what you really believe in, when all the dross is removed.  Christ Jesus laid his life down for what he believed in, for us.  Now we don’t have to actually go and lay our lives down, but we just need to learn the lesson that is given to us as a challenge with the “Renewal of Heart”.

In order to renew our hearts we should start with the seat of our emotions our heart.  As a first step you can look at your heart / emotions to try to understand where you are in relation to where you would imagine you should be.  Some of us have developed emotions, but not in the right sort of way.  For example we may be ideal candidates for an ongoing anger management class.  Some of us may have very selfish emotions, in which all the heart stuff ultimately benefits us, and not our “Neighbour”.  Some of us due to the pressures of modern living have allowed our emotions to become cold, under-developed and unresponsive.  We may have allowed ourselves to crawl into an emotional shell, because we have been hurt so many times on an emotional level.

Yet we need to change our emotions, we need to renew our Hearts.  We need to renew our heart from where it is now to something closer to the understanding of the meaning of the appearance of Christ on this Earth.  We need to tune our emotions, our heart into the purpose of the Christ, so that we can renew our hearts.  With a renewed heart, we will change the physical side of ourselves, the emotional side or the heart side, the intellectual or the mind side.  In fact the complete vehicle that the soul inhabits on this earth plane will be affected by the renewal of the heart.  Having renewed our heart we will become more in touch with our soul, and hence reach out to our spiritual side, or our higher selves.  Reaching out to our spiritual side or higher self will ultimately change the vibrations of the Earth, and speed the return of the Christ to this Earth.  So there are many benefits that are only hinted at in the Holy Scriptures.  You can think of this as the hidden teachings, or as the meat, instead of the milk, that is reserved for more mature followers of the Christ.  We always have the problem of having more than 99% of the followers of Christ being in an average or normal relationship with Christ Jesus, and so not in a position to receive the deeper teachings of the reason for our existence here on this Earth.  It is only the few who will ever be close to being ready to understand these deeper teachings, that are veiled in the same Holy Scriptures that ordinary man has been studying for thousands of years.

It is only when the renewal of the Heart has taken place, that we as ordinary mankind will start to have a chance of understanding what is meant by the renewal of the heart.  I don’t think that you will find anything profound in the teachings, but just simply a deeper understanding of the same stories that you have been keeping close to your heart all the time in anycase.

As a kick-off to renewing the Heart, and please keep in mind that many of you reading this will already be blessed with a renewed heart.  We read in the Epistle how the Word was God, and the Word was made manifest as man.  God decided to subject himself to all the pain and humiliation of undergoing the human experience.  Here is the first big meaty lesson, God manifested on Earth as Christ Jesus because he had a renewed heart.  You see that whole story is trying to teach us something very deep, something very deep and subtle, something so profound that it defies words.  When you think about it for long enough, you will start to find an understanding in the seat of your emotions, an understanding in your heart.  To put this another way, when you meditate on these bible stories, or contemplate them, and keep them close to your heart, in time they will start to transform your heart, or renew your heart.

We get a very profound truth a little further into the scripture reading.  If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves.  Now what does that really mean?  You may agree with me, that if you can say that you have no sin, that your heart has not been renewed.

On the other hand if we confess our sins, God the father through his son the Christ will forgive us our sins, and the truth will start to grow in our lives.  Whether you confess your sins to a Priest or to a prayer partner, or just to yourself, the effect is very similar.

You see the sacrament of Confession as practiced in the Catholic and the Anglican churches as well as others, is in fact quite useful.  The sacrament when practiced on a regular basis has the tendency to renew your heart, because you are forced to face the sins in your life, and receive atonement or forgiveness for your sins.  People who practice the sacrament of Confession in some or other form, tend to have fewer psychological problems, and end up being far more balanced people.  Confession is an opportunity to take your fate into your own hands, and bring a little renewal of your heart into your life.

Further on in the reading we find that the reference is to the nature of light.  God is light, and there is no darkness in the light.  As you think on the implications of this “God is Light”, the truth will start to permeate your being, and you will start to experience the renewal of your heart.

In the Gospel we find Christ Jesus confronted by the bed-ridden man who was afflicted by Palsy.  This man could not even get up, he was too sick.  At the time Christ Jesus was surrounded both by his disciples as well as his critics.  The scribes who were really the intellectuals of the day, were watching carefully to see which approach Christ Jesus would take.  Eventually to the puzzlement of the disciples and the satisfaction of the scribes, Christ Jesus said to the man; “Your sins are forgiven”.

Now if you come to think of this from a point of view of a renewed heart, this was of course the best thing to do in the circumstances.  On the scheme of the immortal spirit, the physical body is just a fleeting moment, and it is gone again.  So to prolong that moment a little bit, that moment of physical reality, physical existence is a very small thing when compared to eternity.  Forgiving the man his sins, would have given the man an opportunity of developing a wonderful relationship with others in Heaven.  Healing his body would have been a disfavour to the man who was afflicted from Palsy, on an eternal basis.

In the end Christ Jesus asked the man to “arise, take up thy bed and go unto thy house.”  Christ Jesus tried to explain to the people there present, that he had power to forgive the sins of the people on Earth.  He also had the power to heal the people on Earth.  You see in order to understand this concept, you would need a renewed heart, or may the advantage of two thousand years of history, to prove your point.  If you ponder these truths.  The truth that Christ Jesus has the power to forgive anybody on earth for their sins.  The Truth that Christ Jesus has even today, the power to heal anybody on earth.  Think on these things, and keep them close to your heart, because ultimately it will lead to you renewing your heart.

Love Father Franz.

Church History – Article 9:
Renewal through Monasticism
From the tenth century onwards, spiritual renewal began to sweep through the Western world.  It all started with the laying of the foundation for the monastery at Cluny in central France, way back in the year 910.  Cluny was founded with the purpose of rejuvenating Christian Monasticism with a stricter observance of the Benedictine rule.  In time there were many daughter houses in Cluny, which followed with the purpose of creating an expression of the deepening of Christianity in the Western world.  Cluny tried to regain the original purity of the monasteries that were started in the West by Benedict of Nursia in the sixth century (480 - 547).  Benedict had striven to separate his monks from society.  Cluny had a different approach, in that he strove to integrate monasticism with society.

Cluny became the focal point of the reform movement in the West.  There were reforms that the Cluniacs (monks of Cluny) wanted to stop, such as the buying and selling of church offices or posts, which is known as Simony.  They wanted to eliminate corruption from the church.  They wanted to re-establish the celibacy of the clergy.  Of course a thousand years later, we may be asking ourselves if the celibacy of the clergy was really a good thing or not.  The Cluniacs set about achieving their goals with a top down approach, which is a concept that we use these days in project management, and computer programming.  In their case they had achieved this goal by enlisting Pope Gregory VII (1077 – 1088), which was about a century later, so that had to be patient in order to achieve their goals.

In the eleventh century Cluny started to falter in its reforming zeal, and was replaced by other monastic orders.  Bernard of Clairvaux (1090 - 1153), and in the twelve century the Cistercians took over.  In the thirteenth century it was the turn of the Franciscans, Francis of Assisi (1182 - 1226), and the Dominicans, Dominic (1170 - 1221) to keep the reforms going.  By the thirteenth century dozens of orders had been established, and the Franciscans and Dominicans are perhaps the best known in this period of history.  All of these orders, that traced their roots back to Cluny were helping to prepare the foundation for the raising of the spiritual level of Christianity in Western Europe.

The renewal and reform in the church stimulated missionary endeavours, with the result that great missionary thrusts were undertaken into Northern and Eastern Europe.  The result was the conversion of the Scandinavians, the Poles, and the Magyars.  In the twelve century Francis of Assisi mounted a serious mission amongst the Muslims.  In the ninth century the eastern Orthodox church had sent missionaries into Eastern Europe and they had successfully converted many of the Slavic peoples.  In the tenth century , Orthodox missionaries had reached Kievan in Russia, which marked the beginning of the Russian Orthodox church.  The Russian Orthodox Church eventually claimed that they were the true successors of Rome and Constantinople.  This same theme was repeated again in a slightly different form, in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, when the Russian Czars claimed that they were the heirs of the Caesars and that Moscow was “The Third Rome”.

An Anglican Catechism  – Article 9:
God the Holy Spirit
=> Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity, God at work in the world and in the Church even now.

=> How is the Holy Spirit revealed in the Old Covenant?
The Holy Spirit is revealed in the Old Covenant as the giver of life, the One who spoke through the prophets.

=> How is the Holy Spirit revealed in the New Covenant?
The Holy Spirit is revealed as the Lord who leads us into all truth and enables us to grow in the likeness of Christ.

=> How do we recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives?
We recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit when we confess Jesus Christ as Lord and are brought into love and harmony with God, with ourselves, with our neighbours, and with all creation.

=> How do we recognize the truths taught by the Holy Spirit?
We recognize truths to be taught by the Holy Spirit when they are in accord with the scriptures.

13th Sunday after Pentecost  –  18th August 2013 (Colour of Celebration – Green)
Intent:  Good Works
Grant us, O Lord, to hold fast within our hearts thy love, which doth always prevent and follow us; that so, loving thee above all things, we may continually be given to all good works; through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

The Liturgy shows us that by faith we put all our hope in Jesus, for He is our refuge; and we ask for the virtue of charity, which renders us lovers of the divine law, and practisers of it.  Let us pray for an increase of Faith, Hope, and Charity.

The feast of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Mary began her journey along the road to perfection at a height to which other Saints arrived only at the end of a long life of saintliness.  In all other children of Adam original sin prevented the divine generosity from having a free course.  But Mary was created immaculate, and therefore the grace of God streamed into her soul without check or hindrance.  Her sinlessness, her heavenly purity, directed every action, every movement to God.  Her Heart was the pattern and model of all virtues, of all purity!  “Blessed are the pure in heart!”.

Homily:
The material for this week brings up the old argument about whether or not it is possible to get into Heaven by means of Good works.  Well the answer is, yes it is possible, and the scriptures hold examples of those people who did make it.  For example we look at Abraham, Moses, the Prophets, and many others in the bible; these are all examples of both men and woman who managed to make their way into the Kingdom of Heaven by means of good works.

Now many people will tell you that there is no way, that you will ever get into Heaven through good works.  You know that they are right.  The few examples of righteous men and woman who successful applied the lessons in the scriptures of the Old testament, and made it all the way into the Kingdom of heaven as a result, as compared to the billions of people alive today for example.  Now if you compare a possible few hundred who made it into heaven with good works, against the billions of people on Earth, who will not make it into heaven through good works, then you can say with confidence that you will not make it into Heaven through Good works.

So why are Good works and Charity emphasized so heavily then, if they will not get you into Heaven?  We have to get things into perspective here, to properly understand how all these things fit together, and taken in context are not only relevant but true for all of us.  Christ Jesus came down to this Earth, so that he could die on the cross, and rise again after three days, and go back to Heaven to be with his Father in heaven.  By doing this the billions of people alive today have a chance of getting into the Kingdom of heaven.  The process is Atonement for sin, or as Martin Luther coined it “Justification by faith”.  Atonement and Justification are the same concept, described in different ways; actually a very good example of semantics, how by describing the same thing in a different way, you are able to differentiate it, and make it appealing to a group of people, who may not have appreciated the original concept for whatever reason.  So we find that for nearly two thousand years of Christian history we have Atonement for Sin, and then with the advent of the Protestants (protestors), we find the same thing being promoted as Justification by Faith.

So Christ Jesus enables anybody on Earth to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, instead of just a few hundred, who manage to crack the code of good works, and keeping the commandments of God.  Good to point out here, that Christ Jesus did not come just for the Jews or the Gentiles, but for all the nations of the world.  Now typically you will find that different nations or races tend to have different religions.  Christ Jesus came for everyone.  Christianity was supposed to be for everyone, of every Race, Culture, Religion, and Creed.  Christ Jesus came for all the people on this earth.  That is why the early church was named the Catholic or Universal church.  Somewhere during the last two thousand years; Christianity seems to have become more and more just for Christians.  Now especially the more fundamentalist brands of Christianity will claim, that their specific community, is the only one that is going to go to Heaven.  They will tell you that everyone who is not a Christian is going to hell when they die.  I spoke to a friend at the “Hatfield Christian Church” in South Africa.  He told me that all the other churches were going to Hell, except the Hatfield Christian church people.  The Catholics were going to burn in fire and brimstone together with all the other religions of the world.  I managed to get him to agree that the traditional Baptists would not be going to Hell, and then our time ran out.  This is the Fundamentalist point of view, and we need to enlighten such fundamentalists.

Instead of standing and condemning everybody else, we should be telling them the Good news that Christ Jesus came to save all of us on this Earth.  It does not matter your Race, Religion or Creed, Christ Jesus loves you, and came to make it possible for you to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

All of us whatever our religion worship God.  The step that we need to make is to recognize that all the different religions are worshipping one and the same God, because there is only One God in the end.  Now this same one God, God the Father sent his only begotten Son Christ Jesus, to die for us and rise again on the third day, and ascend into heaven.  Then we need to recognize that Christ Jesus came for everybody on earth, and not just a select few, as we have been mistakenly taught.

So Christ Jesus is returning for the Jews, and the Gentiles, the Hebrews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Budhists, Taosts, and all the others.  Now here is the shocker; Not everyone who calls upon my name will enter into the kingdom of heaven.  There will be those who have cast out demons in the name of the Lord, but will not be entering into the Kingdom of Heaven.  Why is this, do you know?

Now here is the clincher, in order to get into heaven, you must hear the Will of God and do the Will of God.  Let’s expand that concept in a way that it never gets expanded.  The Will of god is revealed to us in the Holy Scriptures, which could be the Holy Scriptures of any of the Major religions for example.  Having read that scripture, you have become aware of what the Will of God is.  You must then do the Will of God.  If the Will of God is to Love your Neighbour, then you need to actively go out and love your neighbour, because this is the Will of God.  So from whatever religion you are, you become aware of the Will of God, and you put it into practice, and go out and do it.  If you become aware that the Will of God is to Love your God with all your heart, then that is what you need to do.  So regardless of which Holy scriptures you are reading, you need to establish what the Will of God is for you, and you need to do it.  This is how you get into Heaven.

So you interrogate the Holy Scriptures, discover the Will of God, and do it.  You do the Good Works, making sure that you remain within the Will of God.  You see the Good Works are not getting you into Heaven, but they are improving your position in heaven, if you already have your tickets to get past the gates of Heaven.  Now let’s look at that soul who called out “Lord, Lord, I have even cast out demons in your name”, yet he did not have the tickets to go through the Gates of Heaven.  Casting the Demons out is a Good example of Good works, but he had not remained or aligned himself with the Will of God, so the Good works were of no use to him.  In actual fact he had not started off by establishing what the Will of God was, and doing whatever was required.  If he had, then he would have had the pass to get into heaven.  Casting out Demons in the name of the Lord, would have been part of building a special house for himself in the kingdom of Heaven.

Doing the Will of God is like building your house on the rocks, so that when the storm comes the house, which is symbolically your Good works, can withstand whatever the storms of life, and even of death have to offer.  The house stands, and symbolically your soul has its ticket to get past the gates of heaven.  Note, you must not read the Will of God in the King James Version of the bible, or the revised standard version in order to succeed, but any translation that you are comfortable with will do it.  You need to listen to the word of God.  So you need to read the Holy Scriptures that are available to you, find out what the Will of God is and do it.  Maybe somebody reads it to you, or in a time of quite or prayer or meditation, it becomes clear to you what the Will of God is.  Once you know what the Will of God is, you have to do it.  When you do the Good Works, you need to first do what is Gods Will, and then you can do the good Works.  Otherwise you do the Good Works in vain.  Otherwise you are building your house on the sand.

Now let’s look at the man who builds his house on the sand.  He does everything that the man who built his house on the Rocks does.  The building of the house can be compared to the doing of the Will of God, and doing the Good works.  The beauty of the house can be compared to the Good works.  The foundation of the house is that it should have been built on the Will of God.  If the foundation is not right, then we will have a disaster.  Symbolically a man arrives at the gates of heaven, and presents this beautiful house as his ticket to get past the gates of Heaven.  But there is no foundation, and so the ticket is not valid.  This beautiful structure of Good works comes toppling down, because it is Good works, without the foundation of doing the Will of God.  So the man is turned from the gates of Heaven, even although he has built this beautiful mansion to live in.  By contrast a man arrives at the gates of heaven with a small humble house, that is built on the rocks.  This house is built on obedience to the Will of God.  The foundation is the ticket, and the house stands.  The man enters the Kingdom of heaven, and has this house that he has built with good works, as an abode for himself in Heaven.  Not nearly as impressive as the house that was built on the foundation of sand or not the Will of God.  But then that house is lying in pieces on the sand, it has no value, and cannot be a mansion in the Kingdom of Heaven.

So if you want to check the status of your spiritual house, ask yourself this.
Are the foundations built on the Will of God?  If you are not one hundred percent sure, then go over the reasons why you believed this to be the Will of God.  It may even help to take a piece of paper and write things down.  Did you get this from Holy Scriptures?  If so, then fetch the holy book, open the Holy Scriptures, and verify that you have properly understood what the Will of God is.  Move the house carefully off, onto the sand.  Rebuild your foundations by doing the Will of God.  You are rebuilding your foundations on the rocks. Rededicate the good works, the building and make sure that it is all within the Will of God.  If there are parts that don’t comply, then remove them, and place what is left on the solid foundation.  Now your house is built on the rocks, and your ticket into heaven is valid again.   You have created beautiful structures composed of your Good works.

If you are not sure on how to go about this, then you can pray the Believers prayer.  It is the Will of God to pray the believer’s prayer.  All you need is the short version (which is very powerful), although a slightly longer version is also good.  You can pray the believer’s prayer every day, until it sinks into your heart.  The Believers prayer is building your foundations on the rocks.  After this you can build your heavenly mansion with good Works.

Some Bible References
The believer’s prayer is based on;
John, chapter 3, verse 16.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Luke, chapter 15, verse 21
“And the Son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am nomore worthy to be called thy son.”

James, chapter 4, verse 7
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Colossians, chapter 1, verses 12 to 14
“12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the Kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”

The Believers Prayer - short
Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.
Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life.
I ask you into my life and heart to be my Lord and Saviour.
Amen.

The Believers Prayer – Long
God, I know that I am a sinner.
I am sorry for my sins, and I ask you to forgive me.
I believe you gave Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die in my place, for my sins, on the cross.
I believe you have forgiven me, and I accept Your Salvation through Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus, I choose to turn from sinning again and to live for you for the rest of my life.
I choose you to be the Lord and Master of my life.
I will be who you want me to be.
I will do what you want me to do.
I will go where you want me to go.
Thank you, God, for hearing my prayer and forgiving me of all my sins.
Amen.

Love Father Franz.

Church History – Article 8:
Collapse
After the fourth and fifth centuries, the next few centuries, saw the whole of Western civilization including the Christian Church in retreat.
The Barbarian invaders swarmed over the once proud Roman Empire in the west.  A strange thing was happening, the Christian church which was once persecuted by the Roman Empire, was now the only institutional link with the Roman past.  The church took advantage of this situation, and built upon the foundations of the long lost glories of Rome.  The Church was able to leverage itself into the position of the dominant institution of the Middle Ages.

In the East, there were a number of national churches emerging.  Gradually these national churches merged together under the leadership of the Patriarch of Constantinople.  Sadly the great Church of North Africa was lost in the year 707, under the onslaught of a new and dynamic religious movement.  The religion of Islam.  Islam officially made its appearance in the Middle East, with the flight of Muhammad from Mecca in the year 622.  From its starting point in central Arabia, the Muslim faith spread rapidly throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa.  By the year 732, Islam had progressed as far as Tours in south central France.  It was finally checked here by the Frankish warrior-chieftain Charles Martel.  Charles Martel was the Grandfather of the Emperor Charlemagne (742 - 814).  You can already begin to see the great philosophical divide that was starting to build up between the Christian Church and Islam.

As a result Christianity was left with two major centres, following the collapse of the Western Empire, that were developing in the early Middle Ages.  One centre was established in Rome, under the leadership of the Pope, the other centre was established in Constantinople, under the leadership of the Patriarch.  The Patriarch was more powerful than the Pope, because he ruled over the richer and more viable part of the Roman Empire in the East, also known as the Byzantium Empire.  In time the Patriarch was forced to become subservient to the Eastern Emperors.  The Eastern Emperors ran both the state and the Church, so the Patriarch ended up with very little power.

In the West, the Pope had to struggle with many temporal rulers for centuries.  However the Pope started to emerge as the most powerful religious as well as political figure, when compared to the Patriarch of Constantinople.

Most of the early medieval society in the west was focussed on just surviving, for nearly five hundred years, during the early Middlel Ages.  This was a turbulent period of history.  The Church had more or less stagnated for nearly five hundred years during this period.  However despite the difficulties, regions of central and Western Europe were evangelized by missionary monks.  Monks who came from the vigorous Christian background of Celtic Ireland.  Monks such as Columba (521 - 597),  Columbanus (543 - 615).  From England came the great Boniface (680 - 754).  Boniface served under both the Papacy, and the Frankish Rulers, and helped to unite Christian Europe.

During the Early Middle Ages the Christian communities in the West were struggling to stem the tide of the Muslims.  They were struggling with the great temporal lords, like Charlemagne for control of the institutional church.  Continuous interference in Church affairs by Temporal leaders, led to the attempt to give the papacy additional powers, to help prevent such intrusions.  As a result successive Popes spent their energy in keeping the Temporal powers from interfering in Church matters.  More important spiritual matters were neglected by the Papacy.  By the tenth century, the papacy and Western Christianity had reached a low point in terms of spiritual power.

A Meditation for all Humanity, The Great Invocation:
This meditation or prayer refers to the Kingdom of God, establishing itself on Earth.
(In place of the word “Christ” below, you may be more comfortable with the term “Lord Maitreya”, “the Imam Mahdi”, “the Bodhisattva”, “the Messiah”, or etc.)

From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let Light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let Love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.

From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.

From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

By using the Invocation and encouraging others to use it, no particular group or organisation is sponsored. It belongs to all humanity.
