Third Sunday in Lent  –23rd March 2014 (Colour of Celebration –Violet / Purple)
We see Jesus today in open conflict with Satan and his works.   So also during Lent, which is a time when the struggle against the old man is more intense, should we “live as children of the light”, performing actions good, just and true.

Intent: Understanding.

O God, who knowest all things and art therefore all-forgiving, grant us grace so to look upon the hearts of our brethren that we may never fail in understanding and compassion; through Christ the Lord of love, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, throughout all ages of ages.  Amen.

Homily / Sermon:
Firstly I am going to discuss the consequences of living in sin, and the advice that Jesus Christ gives to us to overcome this.
Secondly I am going to discuss some aspects of walking through this world as children of the light.
Finally I will discuss a theme that is highlighted in a soon to be released book by Father Mac Khruisium “Winds of Change”.

Consequences of Sin:
We see open conflict between the forces of good and evil, and as in this first example; the answer is not to simply just apply the law.  The law is there as a first step with regards to perfecting your heart and soul, but is inadequate to completely lift the condition of your heart and soul up to God.

The Scribes and Pharisees enter the scene, with a woman that they had caught in the very act of Adultery.  The law of Moses clearly state’s that a woman caught in such an act should be stoned to death.  They wanted Jesus Christ to prove himself to be a good Hebrew, and to an extent discredit himself, with regards to the Love and forgiveness that he had been speaking about. You see if he asked them to show mercy to the woman, then he would have broken the law, and discredited himself completely as a teacher.  A win-win for the Scribes and Pharisees, that promised to give them their final victory over Jesus Christ, and his teachings.  There seemed to no possible way for Jesus Christ to emerge successfully, from such a situation.

Now obviously they were all eagerly awaiting the response that Jesus Christ would have to eventually give.  They were sure that whatever he said, he would discredit himself completely; there was no conceivable escape from this trap that they had cleverly prepared for him.  The woman involved knew that this was the end, as soon as Jesus Christ spoke, the stones would start flying and she would surely die.  The tension rose to a breaking point as Jesus Christ calmly took a stick and wrote in the sand.  Eventually he turned to them and said; “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her”.

The older and wiser in the group, knew immediately that they had failed in this foolproof attempt of theirs, and they retired.  One by one the rest realized that the words of Jesus Christ, had put them on the spot, and it was their hearts that were being examined, and not the Adulteress’s.  Eventually they all left, and wonder of wonders, the woman was still alive, and Jesus Christ had won another intellectual battle that was constructed by his adversaries.  Of course it was so much more than just an intellectual battle.  It was the Scribes and Pharisees who had walked into a trap and not Jesus Christ.  They had not destroyed his work, but had validated it, and provided tremendous support for the work of Jesus Christ.

After some conversation Jesus Christ said to the woman: “Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more”.  You see this woman, regardless of the sins that she had committed, and regardless of the consequences that awaited for her, according to the books of the law of God; had received atonement for sin from God himself.  This is a story of how atonement for sin works, presented in the form of an allegory, that real people lived out two thousand years ago.  See the prayer of redemption below.

On a different topic, you can consider that a person who has been possessed by a demon, is reaping the fruits of sin in their lives or still paying for the sins of the fathers, which is valid for up to seven generations.  In modern psychological terms the concept of a demon is not really entertained, although the closest explanation of a ghost, is a “personality without a body”.  Because demons, like Angels are spirit, it is difficult to define them within the limits of our non-spirit or physical existence.  Instead of demons modern people will use the concept of “manifestation”.  Certain labels are typically related to mental illness, or psychological problems, such as depression or bi-polar.  Many of these problems are treated by means of therapy, and the more serious cases are treated by means of medication, which can often be permanent medication or medication for life.  People with more serious psychological conditions are often taken up into special clinics to be taken care of, very often on a permanent basis.

To paint a balanced picture, you will often find that people with psychological problems sometimes go to their Pastor or Priest or similar spiritual leader for spiritual counselling, guidance and prayer.  Very often a combination of spiritual counselling and Psychiatric or psychological therapies will achieve a positive result for the patient.  It is not uncommon that a person afflicted with a psychological problem will be able to cope better, or put the problem behind them after a spiritual experience of some kind.  So this does nothing to say that we don’t have demons these days, as they did 2000 years ago; or that demons are in fact psychological problems.  There remains a certain mystery around the whole concept, and so you can take out of it, what you need to.

We see how Jesus Christ cast a demon out of a dumb man, and this dumb man was able to speak again.  Could it be that he was so badly afflicted with a mental condition, that he could not speak.  Immediately we see a group of intellectuals on the scene, claiming that Jesus Christ was casting out demons by using the powers of Beelzebub.  Beelzebub is described as a chief demon.  Here again we see another attempt to discredit Jesus Christ.

However the weakness of the argument is easily demonstrated.  Jesus explains how a kingdom, household or organization that is divided against itself, will not last for long but will fall or fail.  Therefore the argument that he throws out demons by means of Beelzebub, does not make sense.  Even the ordinary people at the occasion that day, was able to understand how silly the argument was in the first place.

Jesus Christ uses this situation to give additional teachings to the crowd that had gathered.  Jesus said, “He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth”.  Now that certainly brings things into perspective.  You will notice in the above quotation that there are only two states of being.  There is no neutral state in the middle.  If you don’t take a position with Jesus Christ or gather souls for the kingdom of heaven, then you are doing the opposite.  There is no position where you can do nothing and remain neutral, there is no grey area in this case.  If you do nothing you are in fact “against Jesus Christ, and scattering the souls for the Kingdom of Heaven”.  As such you will have to account for, and pay the price on the day of judgement; or you can atone for your sins, and change your ways; see the prayer of redemption below.

The other lesson to learn is that when a person is delivered from a demon, or a psychological affliction for that matter.  You should not just leave that emptiness that is formed in there lives, but encourage then to fill the emptiness with positive things.  To fill the gap with things of God, with prayers and Angels, and studies of the sacred scriptures, and etc.  For some people it is useful to visualize a negative emotion being lifted out of the body, and to fill it again with healing water or light.  Whatever you do, don’t leave a hole in your life, for some other problems to inhabit, rather fill it up with good and positive things as soon as possible.

Then when the seven demons come by, all more evil than the one that originally left; there is no space for them to take up their residence.  Have you ever noticed how somebody can overcome a relatively minor mental problem that they are experiencing; but over time, they seem to develop far more serious problems?  This is the seven demons that come back and take residence in that emptiness that is left; because the person involved did  not fill that space up with something positive.

Walking as Children of the Light:
In the first part of this sermon we discussed how it is important to turn away from sin, and turn towards the righteousness of God, with the help of the prayer of Redemption; if you have not already subscribed to it.

Walking in the light is not always going to be easy.  If you walk along a path that is properly illuminated, then you are walking in the light, and everybody can see everything that you do.  You can see exactly where you are going as well.  The path is clear ahead for you, and if you focus really hard; you can imagine receiving your rewards in heaven one day for the effort that you are putting in, on this earth plain.  If you make a mistake in the light, you can’t pretend it never happened, there are so many that can witness against you.

By contrast if you walk in the dark, nobody really sees you, or is aware that you are even there.  Whatever you do, you seem to get away with, because there are no witnesses.  However remember that God records every act of yours on this earth, so that when you get before the throne of God, you will not be able to hide anything.

While you are on this Earth, you are an exposed target for the forces from the dark side.  That is why you should frequently ask God for his protection.  It is also useful to put on the full armour of God, and to understand the significance of the different pieces of armour.  Once you engage in spiritual warfare, either willingly or unwillingly, you can’t back down if you are walking in the light.  Firstly wherever you go, whatever you do, you remain exposed, it is as though there is a spotlight on you.  Secondly the breastplate, and the shield protect your front.  There is no protection for your back.  Once you turn your back on the spiritual attacks, you are fully exposed, and don’t be surprised if the adversary takes full advantage, and delivers the mortal blows to your spirituality.  If you are walking in the light, you have the assurance that whatever happens, no matter how scary, you will receive adequate protection.  This spiritual battle will make you spiritually stronger, and so it is a win-win situation.  If you ever decide to back down, you are immediately in big trouble, because the armour of God does not protect spiritual cowards.  The armour of God is designed and made for spiritual warriors.

A child of God walking in the light, has only two choices.  There is no third option or grey area.  You are either standing up for God, or you are against him.  In the light there is no fence to sit on.  Remember that if you walk in the darkness, you have already given up your soul, and so you are no longer a challenge for the powers of darkness.  Whereas if you are in the light, you are a constant target for the powers of darkness.  However don’t for a moment believe that it will be any better in the dark than in the light.  It is not only the things that you do that are hidden in the darkness, it is also the things that are done to you that are hidden in the darkness.  You have no protection, no armour in the darkness.  When the powers of darkness decide to destroy you completely there is little that you can do to save yourself, except to make your way as quickly as possible to the light, where you can have the full protection of God.  Usually moving to the light would be a process, but in some circumstances it could be a matter of minutes or even seconds.  As soon as you say the prayer of redemption, and really mean it, you have moved across to the light, and have started your walk as a child of the light.  See below for the prayer of redemption.

If we are followers of God, then we should be walking in love.  There is no place for the children of God, the children of the light to bear any form of hatred or malice towards each other.  The fruit of the spirit should start manifesting in your life.  The fruit of the Spirit of God is Goodness, Righteousness, and Truth.  The followers of God, the children of the light, have a tremendous treasure stored up for them, in that they will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.  No I did make a typo or say it wrong.  The children of God, the children of the light, will inherit the Kingdom of God.  Think about that for a moment.  If you have said the prayer of redemption, in the past, you are headed towards heaven.  But there is more, you are not going to live there, as somebody who goes to live in a new place.  You are going to heaven to claim your inheritance.

We are son’s and daughter’s of God, in other words we are brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ, and co-heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven.  We are going to claim our inheritance, our piece of the Kingdom of Heaven.  There will be abundance and more than enough for everybody in the Kingdom of Heaven.  If you have not already, then please claim your place in the Kingdom of Heaven, say the prayer of Redemption, and live by it.

Winds of Change:
If we think about the greenhouse gases that are going into the atmosphere, and the global warming, and climate changes that are starting to take effect.  Think about the way we are destroying our drinking water, our life supporting environment.  We have started to reach planetary limits; we are approaching critical mass points, from which there may be no return.

Raw sewage is still being pumped into the oceans in incredible quantities, power stations are releasing unthinkable quantities of green house gases into the atmosphere every day.  Genetic scientists continue to modify and destroy our natural foodstuffs, and scientists are developing pesticides and herbicides which will get into our food-chain, and ultimately into us.  Cancer has reached epidemic proportions, even although cancer was almost completely unknown of, a century ago.  It is not that something is wrong; it is that too many environmental things have gone wrong, and are continuing to go from bad to worse, on all levels of human existence.

The world urgently needs alternatives, because the dispensation’s that are currently in power are not adequately addressing these very serious problems.  The sound of the wind has been howling in our ears for years, but we have chosen to ignore it; or maybe up till now we could not do anything about it, because there were no alternatives.  There is thankfully at last an alternative for all of us.  Father Mac Khruisium is busy describing these world changing alternatives in the form of a book, which should be available soon.  I will let you know immediately when it becomes available.  I believe it will be available for free in e-book format, as well as the usual paperback format, which one has to pay for.

The Prayer of Redemption
Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.
Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life.
I ask you into my life and heart to be my Lord and Saviour.
I undertake to be baptized as called for in the scriptures, Mark 16, verse 16.
I undertake to regularly partake of Holy Communion, as in Mathew 26, verses 26-28.
Amen.

Mark, chapter 16, verse 16
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Mathew 26:26-28
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name:  Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation.  But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.

A Meditation for all Humanity, The Great Invocation:
This meditation or prayer refers to the Kingdom of God, establishing itself on Earth, or the return of Jesus Christ.
(In place of the word “Christ” below, you may be more comfortable with the term “Lord Maitreya”, “the Imam Mahdi”, “the Bodhisattva”, “the Messiah”, or etc.)

1.) From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let Light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

2.) From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let Love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.

3.) From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.

4.) From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

5.) Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

By using the Invocation and encouraging others to use it, no particular group, organisation, or religion is sponsored. It belongs to all humanity, it belongs to you.  Say this prayer every day, when you wake up in the morning.

Benedictio:
P. The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and of his Son, Christ our Lord; and the Blessing of God Almighty, the Father, + the Son and the Holy Ghost, be amongst you and remain with you always.  Amen.

Homily / Sermon:
Today I will start speaking about the Gospel, because if you had attended a service, you would still have the words of the Gospel fresh on your mind.  Then later on we will go into the Epistle, which is often the interpretation, application, of understanding of the words of the gospel, so chronologically this is also correct.  I am also using the King James version of the Bible for my background sketches; because the King James is not copyrighted like many of the more modern version’s so wrongly are.  Because of the version I am using I can quote entire passages if it seems appropriate.

Firstly I am going to explain some advise that Jesus Christ gave his disciples, as well as a practical demonstration of spirituality that he provided for a select three of his disciples.
Secondly I am going to discuss the advice given to by James on controlling your tongue, as well as some other concepts briefly mentioned in the Epistle’s.
Lastly I will explain some concepts of how to continue in the right way on this earth of ours that is reaching planetary limits in terms of greenhouse gases, pollution and etc.  Winds of Change

Advice from Jesus Christ:
We see Jesus instructing us to address the beam in our own eye, before trying to remove or comment on the mote or splinter in your brother’s eye.  Very good practical advice, that Jesus gives here.  It is like the nicotine addict telling us not to smoke, after having spent a lifetime smoking tobacco products, and now in the process of dying from emphysema and lung cancer, while smoking.  You would be more likely to take somebody seriously who did not smoke, or who used to smoke and has stopped for good reasons.  Nobody would take the alcoholic, in a state of over-indulgence seriously, if he/she were to tell us not to drink.  It might be very funny, but not something that one would want to model your life on.

We see the analogy that you know so well of the man who built his foundation on the word of God, and his house stands the storm, but the man who built his house without a foundation in the sand, suffers great loss at the first storm.  This really speaks about the purification of your soul and your heart.  You see if you have spent great effort in purifying your heart over the years; then the symbolic house that you build on the rocks will stand the test of trial and tribulation.  However if you have put little or no effort into getting your heart and soul aligned with the Will of God; then your symbolic house build on the sand will not have a chance when the first storm appears.  You see your tongue will let you down.  As your eye is the window to the outside world, so your tongue reports eventually to those around you, the condition of your heart and soul in relation to God, and your environment.

Walk up to an upright looking person and unexpectedly slap them hard in the face; the first words after that will reveal the true nature of their soul.  Yes the words coming from their mouth after a few minute’s, may represent the person you thought they were, but listen to the first words, for the first few seconds, those words are the truth about them.  Then on the other hand, why would you want to understand the heart of another, while your own heart still has beams of blackness inside it.

Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up onto mount Tabor, and transfigures himself.  With him in light appears Moses, and Elijah.  When we see Jesus talking to Moses and Elijah, all in white robes and surrounded by light, we realize that our understanding of life, death and the afterlife, as taught in Sunday School, is a bit sketchy to put in nicely.  Peter who was trying to understand this situation, offered to build three tabernacles on the spot.  However we know that God is spirit, and spirit can’t be contained in physical structures.  We hear what we understand to be God the Father quoting these words from a cloud:   “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased”.   You see the Son is also God, but we need hooks for our limited understanding to explain things to us.  In that moment Peter realized that building tabernacles there would not be of any value.

On the way down from the mountain,  Jesus charges them:  “Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead”.
Wow these three guys were probably straining to tell everybody about the unusual experience that they had just had.  However Jesus Christ had to make sure that the focus would remain on his coming Passion, and not shift to his Transfiguration.  You see, although Jesus Christ was and is God himself, he had chosen to undergo the experience of death and crucifixion in a physical human body.  We also are immortal spirits in physical human bodies.  The question is what we are really doing here, and how can we improve the outcome of our transient mission here on earth.  Well the Holy Bible is one of many holy books that explain in great detail, how we can do just this.  However it is not just a book of steps, but rather a manual of spiritual teaching on how to purify your heart and soul.  Once you have achieved the goal of improving your heart, then the other truths that are hidden in allegories in the holy books will start to reveal themselves to you.  In other words when your heart becomes purer, your understanding of the transfiguration and the Passion takes on a greater depth of understanding.  It is this depth of understanding that we should be striving towards, and not the outward and emotional strapping’s of some modern religious practice.  I do agree that sitting in a fundamentalist revivalist type meeting can feel very uplifting, but in reality you are deceiving yourself, because you are not doing any work on your inner heart and soul.  I must add that even in these fundamentalist type settings, it is possible to work on your inner heart and soul, although not being the ideal setting.  By the same token you can silently work on improving your heart, while in ordinary world settings, such as at work, or at home etc.

Control of the Tongue:
The first bit comes out of the book of James.  James was a fairly legalistic type of person, and had no problem in saying that things should be like this or like that.  For James there was no possibility of a grey area somewhere in the middle.  You may argue that in a time such as today, when most people have rebelled against authority and are questioning everything, do we still need the teachings of people like James, also known as James the Just.  The answer is yes.  You see James has transcended himself in his writings, and given us spiritual gems that are priceless, ageless, and beyond his circumstances.  In the same way that the Dali-Lama is able to transcend Buddhism in his writings, and speak to everybody about spiritual truths in an universal kind of way.

James starts off by saying that if a man/woman can offend nobody else by the words that they speak/write, that that man/woman is a perfect man/woman.  We can write volumes on that very subject, it is actually a huge subject, and a portal if you like; into understanding our spirituality and a measuring device/technique for defining our relationship with God.

It is not just about keeping the door to our mouth carefully closed, and carefully filtering the words that we allow to flow from our mouths.  In many spiritual practices there is the symbolic step of a door-keeper to protect the temple.  The temple is symbolically our hearts and souls, or ourselves.  In some traditions like the freemasons, there may have been a person armed with a sword at the door, to keep intruders out.  One of the minor orders in the Catholic tradition is the “Doorkeeper”.  This order gives you the opportunity to reflect on the very necessary practice of controlling what you allow into your being, and also what you allow out in the form of words.  You probably realized that we are talking about the tongue.  The tongue does not control us, but is simply subservient to the desires of our hearts, and reflects what is in our heart.  It is very important to master the controlling of the tongue from a spiritual perspective.  The perspective can be demonstrated by the words of Jesus Christ: “do unto others, as you would like others to do unto you.”  So you see there is this universal or Karmic balance here, and we can go a long way to controlling it by simply controlling the tongue.  If we cut down on the number of hurtful things that we allow ourselves to say to others, then we will surely grow on a spiritual level or understanding.  This growth is in addition to Justification by faith, and is not influenced by it in any way.

However it is not all about the allegorical doorkeeper to our souls, the tongue; or the doorkeeper’s to the expression of our emotions and actions on so many different levels; or even the doorkeeper’s that we allow to limit or advance our spiritual development, in different ways.

It is also about the source of the thoughts and words and actions that are flowing from our being.  The same tongue can pronounce blessings, and almost immediately pronounce curses.  How is this possible?  We know that a fountain will either provide sweet water or bitter water, and that it would be impossible for it to provide these two variations at the same time.  Yet the tongue can produce both bitter and sweet words at the same time.  So we need to understand that the source of the words for the tongue comes from a far more complex source, and as a result needs a comprehensive, and determined effort to master.  The source of who we are, or the condition of our heart and soul is what we really need to work on.  Our hearts are typically a mix of all sorts of things, one minute we will be praising or blessing somebody, and the next cursing that very same person.  To start the process off of renewing the mind, we need to understand that we can’t just clean the mind or heart out, and start with a fresh slate, because that would in fact remove our personality, and possible the soul from our bodies.  So although the goal is to completely renew ourselves it has to be a process, that we need to grow into, and not something that can be magically achieved instantly.

Perhaps a good starting point is to take the controversial mix of ideas and emotions that are constantly raging through our hearts and minds, and to focus our emotions and thoughts on a positive aspect.  As you focus your mind on this positive aspect, more similar positive aspects are encouraged to flow through your mind, which displaces the wild mix of good and bad thoughts that by default rage though our minds.  If we can keep our mind focussed on this positive for a few minutes, then we can afford to ask the doorkeeper to our soul to open the door to our tongue for a few minutes; because we know that the words inevitable flowing from our mouths will be related to the positive flows in our heart and mind.  The more you do this the better you will get at it, and the purer will be the residue left in your mind, until the next time you focus your mind on a positive aspect again.

We can call this prayer, or meditation, or contemplation, or whatever you like.  Most religious or spiritual systems have at least one vehicle for achieving this goal.  Now we can’t blame the religious structures or philosophy for lack of results if we don’t use the available tools that are given to us.  For example in the Christian religion you are encouraged to pray at least once a day.  If you want to take things more seriously from a Christian perspective, you can get yourself a book of hours, and do a mini-bible study and prayer/meditation every hour, given you 24 set prayers a day, If you fall asleep, you just catch up on the prayers you missed while you slept.  If you are in a religious order, then you can observe the various services such as complain, sect, prime etc, and may find that there are somewhere around seven a day.  Muslims have 7 set periods of pray a day, and so on.  We can go back to the story of Daniel in the Lion’s den, to see how Daniel had a period of prayer, meditation, and study of the Holy scriptures every day.  If we read the entire story, we see how this practice had tremendous benefits for him, in the most hostile environment.

So we see that there are really two sides to controlling the tongue.   1.) Keeping the door to your mouth carefully controlled.  2.) Developing the right positive spiritual attitude in your heart, mind, and soul, so that the words that are seeking expression through your mouth, become more and more blessings, instead of curses.  Now tell me, how many of you are intrigued with the idea of using a book of hours, which has around 8760 set prayers for the year?  You can probably get such publications from a catholic Bookshop.  Imagine the work you can do on a soul or heart level, by bending or focussing  your heart towards positive impulses every hour.

Do you see now how James has transcended himself in his writings, and his words still have so much for everybody, even in these current days.  We don’t even think of his words as being legalistic.

We go to look at the teaching of how we should possess this vehicle or physical body, during our immortal spirits transient visit to this earth plain.  If we get control over our tongue, and are able to renew our hearts and minds by a process of prayer and meditation, then we will have gone a long way to possessing our vehicles on earth in the right way.  Again with just a few words, we have  opened up a huge topic, that we could spend forever explaining and gaining deeper insights into.  However for most of us it is simply enough to start with anyway, to be able to recognise that we are not our physical vehicles, but an immortal spirit that is imprinted on this physical body that is our vehicle.  So in other words if you can truly understand who you really are, then the traditional and almost impossible questions of “who am I”, “where did I come from”, “where am I going”, become easy to answer.

Winds of Change:
If we think about the greenhouse gases that are going into the atmosphere, and the upcoming global warming that is approaching us.  For example here in South Africa, our government is building giant coal driven power stations that will probably have to operate for the next 50 years, producing vast amounts of greenhouses gases, in order to cover the cost of development.  Alternatives like nuclear power which can potentially fatally damage our environment and planet for thousands of years to come, are under serious consideration.  We have no say in any of this.  Alternatives such as wind power, and solar energy, combined with battery packs or other storage devices are continuously rejected.  The South African government we are told, takes an estimate of tens of billions of Rands a year in mis-appropriated funds, which apparently end up in Swiss bank accounts etc.  Apparently since 1994, somewhere around a trillion rand has been taken by government in this way.  New taxes and ways of extracting more money from the people like e-tolls, are continuously being invented, but we are not being protected properly, or serviced by the Government, as evidenced by the high level of potholes in most of the alternative roads, as well as incredible crime levels etc.  I could go on continuously, but I only wanted to put enough in here to start the conversation.  The winds of change are blowing strongly at our door, and it is time to open it, and welcome the new era in.

It is time for a change.  The only question that remains, is what is “that alternative to government, education, finances and faith”, and how can such an alternative benefit us, the ordinary citizen?

The answer is very simple: “Cyber Sovereign State”
You see we live in the age of the internet, in which everybody is connected in one of various ways, but most people in the future will be connected by mobile devices such as smart-phones for example.  Now if we had people joining such a cyber state from all over the world, in sufficient numbers, then a number of things start to become possible.

 From a political perspective:
We can divide political governance between global, global regions, sub-regions, countries or states, provinces or counties, areas, cities, and suburbs.  In this way the smallest autonomous unit (a suburb) can have a say in how their suburb is governed.  Official passports and dual residence can be set up.

Individual dwellings can be converted to have the same status as a foreign embassy, and so create the sovereign aspect of the cyber state.  Such dwellings or properties should ideally be converted to a land-ship status, ie self sufficient with regards to energy, water, sewage, and food production on the property.  Such properties should also have adequate perimeter security, because in essence they are sovereign states/countries.

Become a member with a membership fee, and can optionally pay a nominal tax if the income is generated from within the sovereign boundaries.  Paying tax in the cyber state will eventually lead to tax-exemption in the country of location.  Everything including financial positions, and the flow of money will be completely transparent in the cyber state, with a zero tolerance for any kind of corruption.

International Peace Corps will protect the interests of the cyber state.  Such groups will use martial arts as well as conventional equipment to achieve their goals.

From an education & professional registration perspective:
Education can be free online for everybody, from grade zero to grade 12, from certificates, diplomas, and bachelor’s degrees to post-doctoral degrees.  Classes that are attended will be subsidized by membership fees, donations, and potentially some tax income.

Most third world countries have higher requirements for professional registrations, especially medical, than first world countries.  We can accept registrations for example, from the British Institute of Homeopathy, the Indian alternative Medicine University, and etc.  Then as long as these professionals practice on the grounds or property of the Cyber State, they are legally protected.  Patients or Clients will cross into a foreign country (The cyber state), in order to receive treatment or service.  In this way the cyber state can bypass the specific countries stringent registration requirements, and provide the world with a surplus of accessible, and properly qualified medical practitioners, and clinics, using alternative, effective, and affordable natural medicines.  The same methods can be applied to all areas requiring professional registration or recognition.

From a Finance perspective:
The cyber state provides programs and work opportunities for everybody.  The programs will not all be conventional, but many of them will be tried and tested online programs.  Financial programs will be based on online work opportunities, multi-level marketing, technology support programs, and projects to supply green energy, water and food for the planet, amongst others.

Everybody, that is members, will be properly trained to earn a living for themselves, and the more success they achieve the higher membership level they will be entitled to claim.  The leadership is chosen from the higher membership levels, which means that all of the leaders in the Cyber State, have made a financial success of their specific area.  In this way successful leaders will ensure a financially successful cyber state in the long term.

From a Faith perspective:
Jesus Christ came to this earth to give everybody on earth the opportunity for eternal life.  Jesus did not come just for the Christians or the Jews or the Muslims, or the Hindus or the Buddhists, or any other group or sub-group.  Jesus Christ came for everybody.
We will facilitate or create the opportunity for everybody, regardless of specific belief structures to obtain atonement for sin, by saying the Prayer of Redemption.

Let Light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

2.) From the point of Love within the Heart of God

Homily / Sermon:
On this first Sunday in Lent, we contemplate or think about the relationship we have with Jesus Christ.  We take the opportunity to look again at the bigger picture, to see exactly where Jesus Christ fits into the bigger picture, and exactly where we fit in.

As we look at the relationship , it becomes obvious that it has to have arisen out of love; because it is not a fair relationship.  On the one side, Jesus Christ dies on the cross for our sins.  On the other side, all we have to do is to accept our salvation.  Such an arrangement can only have arisen out of love, love for us.  If it did not arise out of love, then it would have been more like a business relationship.  We would have had to provide a close to equal input from our side.

If we look at Jesus Christ a bit closer, we notice that something remarkable has happened.  This was not just a messenger or a prophet who had come to give us a message of some kind.  This was God incarnate.  God himself came to give us this message.  You see we speak of the Holy trinity, three Persons or Gods in one God.  God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  All three are simply different aspects of God that we can experience, but are in fact as much one God as the other two aspects are.  If you deal with the Father, you deal with all aspects of God, likewise if you deal with the Son you deal with all aspects of God.  You see Jesus Christ is the one and only God, the almighty God.  Having three different aspects of God, helps us in our limited understanding of things to understand God a little bit better.  God is omnipresent, in other words God is everywhere at the same time.  God is omnipotent, in other words God has all power over everything.

The essential difference between Jesus Christ, and any other prophet or messenger from God, is that Jesus Christ is God himself.  Yes Jesus Christ was also a messenger of God, a Prophet of God, but he was also God.  Jesus Christ came for everybody on earth, and so regardless of specific religions or belief systems, Jesus Christ came for you.  The one and only God came for you.  You see thousands of years ago, when mankind was less tolerant of their fellow men, then they are these days; mankind was allowed to have tribal / regional / different religions.  And so whether you were a Hindu, Budhist, Muslim, Christian, Jew, or any of the other major or minor religions, or any of the so-called earth religions, you believed in God, but described God in a way that made sense to your specific group.  Many of the religions had lesser Gods, which were also part of God, but easier for our fore-fathers to identify with.  So we had demi-Gods, Greek Gods, Egyptian Gods, Ancestors, Angels, and in fact millions of names for God or aspects of God that mankind was able to worship.  Many were lesser Gods, but because they were connected to God, it was like worshipping God.  However when Jesus Christ came to Earth, he came to earth as God Almighty.  He came for everybody on Earth.  In this way Jesus Christ has transcended all the diverse religions, because he came for everybody.  After the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, it no longer made sense to persist with any of the major or minor religions, because there was only one true religion left on this earth.  That religion was not specifically Christianity or Catholicism, or Protestantism.  The true religion was to recognise Jesus Christ as the Almighty God, and to worship him.  The true religion was to accept your redemption or forgiveness of sins from Jesus Christ and to have your place in Heaven assured.  Of course we are all asked to take the good news to the far corners of the earth, or everybody on earth.

If you study many different religions, you will notice that they all have vastly different belief systems, and definitions of God.  However when you hear them speaking about God, or when you read writings that are specifically speaking about God, then you will suddenly find that this God they are speaking about seems to be the same God that you have always been speaking about.  Jesus Christ came for all the world, and so all the religions of the world should have become one.  However even after two thousand years, they have persisted in their various different forms.  Even these days we hear news of fundamentalist groups belonging to one of the major religions, dong the most heinous things, in the name of God.  Religious groups maintaining that they are the only true religion and everybody else is going to hell.  Even amongst Christians, some fundamentalist Baptists for example, will maintain that the Catholics are going to hell.  We have so much work to do and so little time, and humanity in general has refused to understand the significance of Jesus Christ.  So many believe that Jesus Christ came just for them or their group, whereas God tells us that Jesus Christ came for everybody.

God told us over and over again, in many different ways, that Jesus Christ was God, and that he had come to save everybody on this earth.  Jesus Christ did not just come for the Jews and the Gentiles, but also for the Hindus, and the Budhists, and the wicca’s and in fact everybody on this Earth.

John chapter 3 verse 16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”.

Now you notice that God did not single out any religious group in this statement.  God loved everybody in the world, and Jesus Christ came to save everybody on Earth, regardless of religion or anything else.  If you live in this world, God loves you, and Jesus Christ came to give you the gift of eternal life; it is that simple.

So now that we have finished explaining who Jesus is, let’s look at what he did around this time to prepare himself for the mission that he was about to undertake, that would end in his crucifixion.

Jesus Christ goes into the desert and fasts for forty days.  Forty days is about the limit that a human being can go without food, before the condition becomes a medical emergency, or a serious medical condition.  Now I am not saying that you should go ahead and fast for forty days.  Basically a fast is taking away something, typically food, that is absolutely essential for survival, for a set amount of time.  So now ask yourself the question, what do you have in your life, that if you were to be without it, would make life difficult or uncomfortable for you.  Cutting down on food, will certainly make a big difference, however most people are not as healthy as they used to be all those years ago.  I know for example that if I miss a meal, my stomach acid builds up, and I suffer some discomfort.

There are other things that we can cut down on as we prepare for the great feast of Easter, the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  The celebration of the promise that we too will have eternal life, if we will accept our redemption, our atonement for sin, our salvation.

Some of us smoke, and without cigarettes we will end up feeling a bit deprived and grumpy.  Yes that sounds like a good one, give up smoking until Easter Sunday.  Maybe you are in the habit of consuming a beer or two at night.  Give up drinking beer, until Easter Sunday.  Some of us treat ourselves to a night out once a week, a meal at a restaurant, followed by a movie or a visit to the state theatre or something along those lines.  How about giving that up until Easter Sunday.  Maybe you just enjoy a cup of hot chocolate for example, when you go to bed; well give that up till Easter Sunday.  There is sure to be something that has some significance for you in your life that you can give up until after Easter.  By doing that you are identifying with Jesus Christ as he spent those forty days fasting in the desert.

These 40 days of fasting or sacrificing something significant in your life is important, because fasting goes with prayer and contemplation.  As soon as you voluntary deprive yourself of something that you enjoy or need for survival, you will start thinking about the reason for it.

Yes, you are giving up this thing to identify with Jesus Christ, but you are also thinking about other significant things.  You see all of us, regardless of our religion will one day stand before the judgement seat of God, the Judgement seat of Jesus Christ.  Whatever you believe or don’t believe, you will still stand before the judgement seat of God Almighty.  According to the deeds that we have committed while in this Human body we will be justly rewarded or punished.  There is no escape from this.

As you contemplate on this, you will realize that very few people on this earth would have done well in front of the judgement seat of God.  It is only because of our atonement for sin, or our redemption that we can confidently stand in front of the judgement seat of God, knowing that the outcome will be positive.  God has come to earth in the form of a man, and suffered crucifixion in order to give us this redemption or eternal life.  Those who have not taken up this offer will simply exist in a state of separation from God, or as some sources put it, in hell.

Now think of this, although God has asked us to go into all the world, and take the good news of salvation to all of mankind, we have not really done this too seriously.  How are we going to explain this to God when we stand in front of his throne?  We will still have our redemption, but I think that this will be an awkward moment.  If you had taken this message to just one person, then at least you can tell God that you have shared the good news with one person.  Of course being able to tell God that you have shared the good news with tens of thousands of people from all races, backgrounds and creeds, would be even better.

We have been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, who is also the one and only God.
The below extract describes what Jesus Christ subjected himself to for us:
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we may be made the righteousness of  God in him.”

The Prayer of Redemption
